Did you know that Plastic Degrades in Sea Water?

We know that polystyrene litter is ugly and destroys pristine beaches. Now scientists are finding that these plastic items are chemically breaking down in sea water contaminating ocean creatures. Science News reported that at a meeting of the American Chemical Society. Scientist claimed there was evidence of danger to wildlife because of a breakdown at a molecular level. Studies suggest that when long chains of carbon and hydrogen break down into smaller units they are carcinogenic to mice. Researchers are now studying the effects on other life forms.
