The Museum Tour catalog was founded by Marilynne Eichinger. She felt the desire to enrich her children's lives and became involved in starting a museum in Michigan.
The success of her founding the Impression 5 Science Museum led her to Portland where she developed the Oregon Museum Of Science and Industry (OMSI) into a major national attraction. In that capacity, She encountered parents who expressed a desire to extend the museum experience into their homes but were not sure how to go about it. "Parents understand the need to supplement their children's education and often look for advice on what to purchase," Eichinger says.
She got involved in everything from building development to educational programs, to exhibit conception, to operating a gift shop, food services, and theaters. Since everything she did was under the guise of the museum she was able to feed her constant search for new ideas and stimulating activities. After twenty-five years of running museums she then became interested in how families were educating their children at home.
She started The Museum Tour Catalog in 1995, which provides educational and recreational products to "children" of all ages. The reason she started this site is because she wants to explore what it means to be an educated and balanced person in the complicated, overpopulated, pressured world of today.
